It was the day of the tournament and the boys were really up for it. It was sort of a pre-season warm up to get the boys in blue ready for the season ahead. We arrived at JMA with high anticipation that we could succeed in this tournament. We warmed up and got ready for our first game…

Our first group game was against St. Joseph’s school and we swiftly won against them 4-1 after being 1-0 down. With goals from Teo, Jack and Olly. The game gave us a great boost of enthusiasm towards our next game.

Next Game was a tight one but we scraped it late to win 1-0 which pushed us higher up the group table towards the top. After a few games off we came back and put up a great fight against Theale green which ended up 0-0.

Then we moved to the other pitch to play Denefield who were all over us the whole game but with great keeping and defending skills we managed to scrape one late once again winning the game and the group.

Then after we had a meeting with all the teams to see who everyone was playing in either the cup or the plate. We were told that we had to play JMA in the semi-finals of the cup.

The game had started and rather than the normal seven the games were 10 minutes long. Increasing the chance of any team scoring. Saying that the game ended 0-0 and went to penalties. I went first in goal and saved the penalty, same as the opposition’s keeper. Ditto the third round and it was down to the last penalty. Their striker hit the crossbar and it went over, and then Josh stepped up to slot it home and it sent us to the final.

The final was a very controversial one at that and after not long High down had gone one nil up.  The game was supposed to be 10 minutes long but after 6 the ref had to blow the final whistle because of the fact that people had training at 6 on the same pitch wrecking the game.

But overall it was a good tournament for the boys and a great pre-season start for willink and a great representation of what willink is as a school
