Top Tips for Shooting Your Music Video

1. Hold your phone in landscape mode

If you are shooting using your mobile phone hold it the right way up!

2. Always plan what shots you are going to take – don’t make it up on the spot

If you don’t plan what you’re going to film you will waste a lot of time at your location.

3. Avoid “real-time” filming

Break down whatever you are filming into a series of individual shots. For example, when filming a car chase, take three or four points along the route of the chase.

4. Don’t ‘hosepipe’ the camera

Avoid waggling the camera up and down and sideways. It’s called hosepiping because the end result is about as controlled as a hosepipe not being held when the tap is turned on. Decide on some key things in your scene and take individual shots with the camera still.

5. Avoid shooting into the light

Unless you want to have a silhouette effect, make sure the light is shining on your subject rather than being behind the subject.

 Good luck, and enjoy!
