Hi Year 12,

Your MS1 exam is at 9AM on the 18th of May.  Trying to work out what to do in your revision time in the last couple of weeks?

In the run up to the exam, the key things to remember are as following: –

x Terminology, terminology, terminology.  There is a revision guide with many key terms on the Office 365 group.  Ask me or Mr Ballantyne if you can’t find it.

x Theories – look back at your PLCs – do you feel confident applying all of them?  Watch an advert – see if you can apply a theory to it.

x Case studies – you should be able to call to mind three case studies for any of the representation areas (apart from issues and events, where you need two texts for each issue or event): –

Men, Women, Older, Teens, National, Regional, Events (Two out of Trump’s Inauguration, Christmas and the Rio Paralympics), Issues (Disability and Immigration), Ethnicity (Black African American).

They should be a variety of examples (so from different platforms) and should vary your points – try not to be repetitive.  You won’t be credited for making the same point about three different texts!

For representation, can you find a stereotype and a countertype?  Can you talk about purposes being the reason for these different representations?  How does audience or genre change the representation?

x For audience, again, you need three case studies for positioning, targeting or audience responses.

For audience, try to focus on a different theory for each text.

All of the key examples, although not exhaustive, can be found in the files tab of the Office 365 group, as above, ask me or Mr Ballantyne to help with finding it.

Most of the past papers can be found here: – WJEC Past papers.  There is also a list of all the questions separated into unseen and rep/audience which can be found in the Office 365 group.

Good luck, don’t panic, try your hardest.
