Lego Hard Work

Media Students – you’re nearly at the half term break.  If you want to extend your learning a little, or you are aiming for the top grades, it’s worth reading as much as you can.  None of these tasks should take very long (we want you to have a break too!) but they might get you thinking.

Year 10 GCSE

You could watch this short video about the Regency Era from Made In Chelsea.  This is relevant to the Quality Street advert and the characters of Major Quality and Mistress Sweetly.

You could read the Quality Street factsheet or the This Girl Can one.  We will use these in year 11 and we have covered a lot of the content, but see if there is anything there you are unsure about.

Year 11 GCSE

As well as starting work on your filming (and don’t forget that you will need a fast paced montage which will need lots of footage!) you might want to start looking at tutorials on Youtube – we have Adobe Elements at school.  See if you can find tutorials related to the effects that you want to create.  Watch as many trailers as you can and make sure you are confident on the conventions.  This Top Ten Horror Movie Trailers video is a good resource.

Year 12 A Level

Straight Outta Compton: – How does this tweet demonstrate the benefits of conglomerates?

Newspapers: – Do you really understand convergence?  This article should help you.

Advertising: – Goodwill towards charities have changed – adverts have to follow suit.

Year 13 A Level

You should really be working on your coursework essay, your first draft is due on the 22nd of November.  Many of you will need to revisit your primary texts and make sure that you have a good level of analysis on that.  If you changed your texts, this is vital.  Beyond this, I’d suggest reading as much as you can relating to the three music artists – the more factual information you have about them, the better.  Read the powerpoints provided by your classmates – think carefully about which music videos you feel most confident writing about.  Are you clear on the relationship between the industry, the audience and the text?  Some of you have struggled with using Dyer’s Star Theory – this is quite helpful.… and this one is quite good for industry.

Have a good break all – it’s been a busy, packed half term.  I’ve been impressed by the start many of you have made to this year.
